UDAAN 2 - Session 4

August 21, 2021

UDAAN is a virtual program created especially for youths of different mindsets and backgrounds. We aim to create a safe space for youths where they come together to share their emotions, feelings, experiences and stories. This space helps them to grow as individuals by creating a platform to be themselves, talk about their issues and find solutions to their problems.

UDAAN is facilitated by Lokopakar.

Lokopakar is an organization dedicated to youth development. We currently have 4 programs: Strength TogetHER, UDAAN, Margadarshan and Mental Health Series.

The fourth session of UDAAN chapter-2 was held on August 21 2021 in the topic "I'm one of a kind" via zoom "meet from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the presence of about 20 participants.

Kavya Bishwokarma, she is a fresh graduate of bachelor of social science with experience in mentoring and emceeing. Previously associated with Maiti Nepal, she has also worked as junior journalist at Republica. As a self trained dancer, she had won competitions and choreographed too.

Our first speaker shared a beautiful story of a transition of herself building a strong girl from a bullied scared girl. She was always excluded and bullied by her friends in the class. She, till this day, is unaware why she was bullied. Even her teacher once made fun of her and she couldn't stop herself from asking her teacher why it had to be her always to be made fun of. The silence of everyone gave her more insecurities. But with the time being, she started loving herself and seeing herself as a strong and beautiful girl.

Our second speaker talked about how she was always left out by her own friends and even her best friends. She was always hated by her friends in the class for many reasons. Later on she started to work on herself and started ignoring all except herself. Now she says that she is so confident that she feels like those days were meant for her to build herself a strong and confident girl. She accepts herself more than anything in this world and believes that she will make a change in this beautiful world.

Our third speaker shared his insecurity about his misplaced teeth. He explained how he has never laughed with his mouth open in the crowd. He says that due to his misplaced teeth he has backed off so many opportunities that might have been very important to him. He even said that he was afraid to make new friends because he thought they would find him bad looking or strange. At the end he said that all this time he was trying to think about others' thoughts rather than himself. So he decided to love himself more than anyone.

After hearing all of us our moderator was very happy that we loved ourselves and accepted the way we are because we all are made different and we all are beautiful and awesome. She says that we should be surrounded by the people whose eyes light up when they see us coming. We should always make ourselves our priority. We are not born to impress anyone. We are born to express and love everyone. She says that self acceptance is the best way to have a beautiful and happy life.
